Sermorelin vs. Ipamorelin
Sermorelin and ipamorelin both prompt your own pituitary gland to release growth hormone, but by different routes. Sermorelin is a GHRH analog used on its own. Ipamorelin is a selective growth hormone secretagogue that Rx2BFIT offers paired with tesamorelin. Both are subcutaneous injections, prescribed and monitored by Dr. Patel. Which one fits depends on your goals.

How each one works
Growth hormone is released in pulses, mostly at night, under the control of two signals from the brain. Neither peptide supplies growth hormone directly. Each one works upstream, nudging the pituitary to release its own, which is why both depend on a pituitary that still works and why both are monitored with an IGF-1 level.
Sermorelin is a synthetic copy of the first 29 amino acids of growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH), the signal the brain normally uses. It acts on the GHRH receptor and is thought to preserve the body's own feedback loops.
Ipamorelin acts on a different receptor, the one the hunger hormone ghrelin uses, and produces a short growth hormone pulse. At Rx2BFIT it is not offered alone: it comes as the Tesamorelin / Ipamorelin pairing, where tesamorelin covers the GHRH side and ipamorelin the ghrelin side. Our article on what ipamorelin is covers the receptor and the evidence in depth.

Side-by-side comparison
The same questions, asked of both. Where the answer is identical, the two options do not differ on that point.
| Criterion | Sermorelin | Tesamorelin / Ipamorelin |
|---|---|---|
| Peptide class | GHRH analog: a synthetic version of the first 29 amino acids of growth hormone releasing hormone | Selective growth hormone secretagogue, paired here with tesamorelin, a GHRH analog |
| Where it acts | The GHRH receptor on the pituitary gland | The ghrelin receptor in the pituitary and hypothalamus (tesamorelin acts on the GHRH receptor) |
| How it is given | Subcutaneous injection | Subcutaneous injection |
| How Rx2BFIT offers it | On its own, as a single peptide | As the Tesamorelin / Ipamorelin pairing, two peptides together |
| What Rx2BFIT lists it as possibly supporting | Energy, Muscle recovery, Healthy aging, Body composition | Lean muscle, Recovery, Sleep quality, Visceral fat reduction |
| FDA status | Not FDA-approved for any use. A former pediatric and diagnostic product was discontinued. | Ipamorelin is not FDA-approved for any use and remains investigational. Branded tesamorelin is approved only for abdominal fat in HIV-associated lipodystrophy, and that is not what is dispensed here. |
| Sourcing | U.S. supplier, independent lab testing, certificate of analysis on file, no compounding pharmacy | U.S. supplier, independent lab testing, certificate of analysis on file, no compounding pharmacy |
| Lab monitoring | IGF-1 plus screening labs before starting, repeated about every six months | IGF-1 plus screening labs before starting, repeated about every six months |
| Dosing schedule | Given to you in writing by Dr. Patel after the consultation and labs | Given to you in writing by Dr. Patel after the consultation and labs |
| Competitive sport | Prohibited at all times on the WADA list | Prohibited at all times on the WADA list |
Which one is right for you
There is no universal winner, and this page does not pick one. The human evidence on ipamorelin is thin, and neither option has trial data showing it beats the other on muscle, sleep, or recovery. What separates them is the shape of the protocol and where your goals sit.
You may lean toward sermorelin if you want a single peptide and the simplest plan, and your goals are broad: energy, recovery, and healthy aging as part of long-term wellness rather than one specific body composition target.
You may lean toward the pairing if your goals center on training recovery, lean muscle, sleep quality, or visceral fat, and you are comfortable with a protocol that uses two peptides instead of one.
Neither may suit you if you compete in a tested sport, have active or recent cancer, or are pregnant or trying to conceive. Raise any of these at the assessment. If what you really want to know is how a peptide differs from growth hormone itself, read sermorelin vs. HGH.
Every other peptide the practice offers is on the peptide therapy page. When you are ready, request a free assessment and Dr. Patel will make the call with your history and labs in hand.

Frequently asked questions
Can I take sermorelin and ipamorelin together?
Not as a stack you put together yourself. Rx2BFIT offers sermorelin on its own and ipamorelin as part of the Tesamorelin / Ipamorelin pairing, which already combines a GHRH analog with ipamorelin. Whether any combination makes sense for you is a decision Dr. Patel makes after your consultation and labs.
Do both need lab monitoring?
Yes. Growth hormone releasing peptides raise IGF-1, so Dr. Patel checks an IGF-1 level along with the standard screening labs before you start and repeats it as part of your monitoring labs about every six months. Recent labs from your own doctor can be used if they are within six months.
Are either of them FDA-approved?
No, not as used here. Sermorelin was once approved as a diagnostic agent and for growth hormone deficiency in children, but that product was discontinued and no sermorelin product is approved today. Ipamorelin has never been approved for any use. A branded tesamorelin is approved for one narrow use, reducing excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy, and that is not the product Rx2BFIT dispenses.
Where do the peptides come from?
Neither comes from a compounding pharmacy. Rx2BFIT sources both from a U.S.-based supplier whose batches are tested by an independent laboratory for identity and purity, keeps the certificate of analysis on file, and reconstitutes them in the office under Dr. Patel's supervision. Dr. Patel reviews the known risks and the limits of the evidence with you before anyone starts.
Can I use either one if I compete in a tested sport?
No. Sermorelin, tesamorelin, and ipamorelin are all named on the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List and are banned in and out of competition. If you compete at any level with an anti-doping program, tell Dr. Patel at your assessment.
How do I find out which one fits me?
Start with a free assessment, in the Artesia office or by video. Dr. Patel takes your history, orders screening labs including IGF-1, and recommends one option, the other, or neither. Call (562) 650-0069 or send a request through the contact page.
